What Medicare and insurance cover for hearing care.

Here is the plain version for California. Benefits change, so confirm current details with your plan before making a decision.

01

Original Medicare

Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids or exams for fitting them. It may cover a diagnostic hearing or balance exam when ordered to investigate a medical condition. Hearing Onsite, through HearQuest Audiology, bills Original Medicare for eligible diagnostic evaluations.

02

Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage benefits vary by plan and may include a hearing benefit or provider-network requirement. Hearing Onsite is in network with Aetna, Blue Shield of California, and UnitedHealthcare. Read your Evidence of Coverage or call your plan to confirm benefits and network requirements.

03

Medi-Cal

Hearing Onsite has a pending Medi-Cal application. Medi-Cal hearing services require a Medi-Cal-enrolled provider. Review current state information at DHCS hearing benefits.

04

VA benefits

Veterans seeking care through VA or TRICARE should work directly with their care coordinator before scheduling. Community care requires authorization before the appointment. Learn about VA community care.

Private and employer plans

We work with Aetna, Blue Shield of California, and UnitedHealthcare. Physician referrals are required for specific insurance plans, but not for cash-pay patients. We provide an itemized superbill for self-submission when appropriate.

We will tell you what we can and cannot do.

Call with your general plan type and we will explain whether we can bill it and what that means. Do not send member IDs, insurance cards, or medical records by text, email, or website form.
